And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
For $100 I bought a van that had been sitting in high weeds. New gas and a jump, she fired right up. That summer I put over 5,000 miles on that 1963 Ford Falcon Club Wagon. A camper with small kitchen, cabinetry, and a bed. I used a Hibachi for grilling.
Back at college, I lived in it until the next summer. I ran a good business of typing reports for other students. I saved a lot of money. The state park had great showers, I'd sneak in at night.
The only repair was a new fuel pump/filter (with glass bowl), newer used tires, and minor brake job.
I lost the van when I took a job at sea so parked her at my brother's. His psycho wife had it towed to whokowswhere.
Our family of six had one, sort of camperized with three bunks in back, and a couple of windows added. Place to be was riding on engine cover up center with adults. Except in summer when it would overheat like crazy. Going up mountains we had to stop, open up engine and side doors to get temperature down to where it wouldn't vapor lock.
Ford Falcon van. Earlier '60s. Later renamed the Econoline van. 170 cu in six between the front seats.
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer a different color, but I would drive it.
ReplyDeleteThey look cool but they are pretty noisy and miserable to drive...and I've never seen one with AC.
